Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death among women, with approximately one in eight women being diagnosed at some point during their lifetime. Dr. Helms of Cooley Dickinson hospital said women should screen themselves at least once a month and consult with their personal doctors about mammograms. In general we uh, breast surgeons recommends that you have a beginning uh, screening mammo at age 40 and proceed, thereafter it's great discussion to have with your primary care doctor as to how often that should be every one or two years there forward. Dr. Helms said breast cancer is the most common cancer that affects women, with approximately 300,000 being diagnosed just this year. Three million are survivors. So while Dr. Helms says it's very frequent, it is treatable.
