Today, we?ll watch part of a TV show called Home Made Simple, from OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network). It?s a very nice video, because it?s full of interesting vocabulary and expressions and it also shows us something that?s much more common in the USA than here in Brazil, the DIY (Do It Yourself) culture.  

So, let?s get to work!

-All right, guys, so I'm not really clear on exactly how handy we are. But it doesn't matter.

Kelly's going to teach you guys a few things. So anything you don't know, she knows. We're going to make it happen, OK?

-We are going to build a bookcase.

-Sounds good.

-So I thought it'd be really nice to have Robbie and Pops here build her a bookcase that you guys said that you did together that ultimately goes on the wall, that houses some of her books and some of the other things.

Now before we start all the cutting, everybody needs safety glasses. Safety first.

- OK, Mr. Ayers, you ready? You ready, Pops?

- Ready.

- Come on, now.

-OK. Oh, you got that stretch out. You gotta stretch out.

- This here.

[LAUGHTER]

- KELLY: OK, listen up. Listen up. What you're going to want to do is you're going to want to start it, bring it down, and then slowly cut that. You want me to do one to show you, or you got it?

- I got it.

- All right.

-There you go.Push it back. All right, first one done.

You want to try one?

-Yeah, let's go for it.

KELLY: All right.

ROBBIE: I actually do like this.

-We have a piece.

- I was made for this.

- Awesome.

-OK, so these are all the boards that we're going to use to make our bookcase.So we're going to add some wood glue. Run one bead of wood glue down that.

ROBBIE: OK.

KELLY: Now, in order to assemble the bookcase together, we're going to use some corner clamps.

So these corner clamps here, this makes sure that everything stays together.

Now, just so you guys know, we're going to nail it, but really, the strength is in the wood glue.

So this is the part where you nail it together. That's your job, Pops.

-All right.

- So now I'm gonna let you guys do a few on your own.

POPS: Oh, yeah.

KELLY: Oh, yeah!

[LAUGHTER]

Oh, yeah.

Oh, that's locked in.

KELLY: Good job.

Awesome.

I'm, like, surgical with this thing.

KELLY: Man, you guys are pros!

KELLY: All right, so let's get a stain in. I'll give you some gloves.

And you just want to dip it in and then just gently wipe, and then wipe off all the excess.

ROBBIE: Ooh, that's pretty.

KELLY: You like the color.

- Mm-hm.

I think that Robin is going to be so surprised when you give this, a custom-made bookshelf for her books.

I think it's incredible.
