One week ago Ellie Black didn't even

think she would be here. She could barely

walk let alone do this on the beam

But she was able to come back for one

last shot at the Olympics. In the end, she

just missed the podium 

Mostly I was just

really proud of myself like

really proud it's,

it's hard coming fourth but

like, after my routine I was crying

because I was so proud of myself just

for getting here 

She was one place behind another gymnast who everyone wasn't sure would make it

tonight 

Simone Biles was expected to

dominate at these games but after this

vault she withdrew for most of the competition

She said she had a mental block that

interfered with her ability to twist

through the air making her much more likely to crash

so she was left cheering her teammates

on in the stands - a difficult place to be

for someone used to always winning 

I had some sessions with the sports

psychologist here as well as medical

evaluations almost every day

to kind of just get a gauge of where I am mentally

I don't think... I think it's more prevailing but

I was just happy to do beam because I

didn't think I was going to be cleared to

That routine earned her a bronze - the

same medal she won in this event in Rio.

Back then she saw it as a disappointment

but this time around, a personal victory

Bile's decision to withdraw from

competition and focus on mental health

has sparked a whole conversation around

the pressure to compete and many former

gymnasts have weighed in, including her

own coach 

Someone asked me if I would

have said something when I competed I

don't think I would have had the guts to

say anything I would have just

avoided and probably hurt myself

and her coach believes by stepping back

Biles set an example even if these

Olympics weren't the gold medal hall she

or her fans were expecting
